CANDLE CARE

Before lighting your Jaime Rose candle we recommend you read our tips on candle care as well as the warning label at the base of your candle prior to burning.

The most important thing to remember is that candles are a naked flame and they need to be treated with caution and respect.

THE FIRST BURN

When you light your candle for the first time, always allow the wax to burn so that it melts across the entire surface and pools to the edges of the jar. This first burn is the most important as it will effectively assist in preventing tunnelling and help promote an even burn for the duration of your candles life.

TRIM YOUR WICKS

We advise that before every burn, always trim your wick. The wick only needs to be approx 5mm, keeping it at this length will help encourage a more even burn, steady flame and limit mushrooming and sooting.

BURNING YOUR CANDLE

Ensure you burn your candle on a stable and heat resistant surface. Burn your Jaime Rose candle for a minimum of 1-2 hours at a time but no more than 4 hours. To maximise fragrance scent throw in a room, keep doors and windows closed for 30 minutes before opening them, as this will help disperse the scent.

PUTTING OUT YOUR CANDLE

To extinguish your candle, use a candle snuffer or a wick dipper to carefully dip your wick into the melted wax and then straighten to prevent smoking and avoid hot wax splatter. Try to avoid blowing out your candle, however if you do, blow it out gently. Do not use liquid or the lid to extinguish your candle.

DON’T BURN ALL THE WAY DOWN

Extinguish and discard your candle when there is 10mm of wax or less remaining. We do not advise to continue burning your candle below this to avoid overheating the glass jar.

KEEP COOL + AWAY FROM HARSH LIGHT

Soy wax candles are sensitive to temperature and light, so try to always store your candle in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This will help to protect it from discolouration and fading.

BLACKENED GLASS EDGES

If your candle glass starts to blacken with use, this is just soot and is caused when the wick is too long. To remove the soot, simply wait until after the candle is extinguished and cooled, then wipe with a dry paper towel. Trim the wick and relight.

REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE

You can reuse your Jaime Rose Candle Co. jars by cleaning them with the following instructions:

Fill your candle jar with hot water.

Wait 3-4 hours, once the water is cooled the remaining wax will rise and set.

Scoop out the wax and discard in the bin. Remove the wick tab at the bottom of the jar.

Repeat this process if necessary, then gently wash out with warm soapy water and wipe out with paper towel.

Do not pour hot water and wax down the sink, as this will set and clog your drain.
